Poetry and sensuality in

LA PEAU D'ELISA - February 23-26, 2011

Media release. Vancouver, January 20th, 2011. For immediate release.

From February 23 to 26, 2011, Théâtre la Seizième presents La Peau d’Elisa, by GG Award-winning and past Siminovitch Prize winner Carole Fréchette.

Well served by Fréchette’s sensual, poetic and enchanting voice, La Peau d’Elisa is a riveting, poignant play about love, loneliness and the fear of aging.

For the first time in its original French version in Vancouver at Studio 16 (1545, West 7th) at 8 pm. Book your tickets for any of the only four Vancouver performances by calling 604-736-2616.

In La Peau d’Elisa, a woman tells passionate tales of love. Story after story, she delicately insists on the most minute and intimate details: the racing heart, the sweaty palms, and the skin that shivers to the touch. She speaks feverishly as though she is in danger, as though her heart, her life, her skin depend upon it. Little by little, through her portraits, she reveals what it is that drives her to tell these stories and lets us in on the strange secret that a young man shared with her one day, in a coffee shop.

This poetic work by Fréchette elevates the art of storytelling through a series of amorous adventures our heroine willingly relates, in an amusing, sometimes febrile tone. Quebecois playwright Carole Fréchette was once again nominated for the Governor General’s Literary Award for this very play, a superb exercise in erotic lyricism, pathos and comedy, shifting skillfully between wonderfully complex images.
